The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH, Gazdasági Versenyhivatal) is a public, budgetary institution of national competence which is responsible for the supervision of competition as defined in the Competition Act and in the Act on Business Advertising Activity. However, certain matters of the competition supervision such as the injury of reputation and business secrets, boycott and imitation are in the competence of the courts. In cases affecting the trade between Member States of the EU, the GVH applies the competition rules of the Community. The GVH gives expert advice and proposals relating to the governmental competition policy and the decisions of the government affecting competition and represents public interest. It supports the development of competition culture in Hungary.
