Restaurants & Bars
Award-winning restaurant with an international reputation, founded in 1894. The menu in the new Gundel is based on traditional Hungarian cuisine as once practiced by Károly Gundel and his staff. They prepare refined versions of Hungarian dishes, revive traditional fares once eaten at the tables of East European aristocracy and offer specialties of the worlds major culinary cultures. After years of experimentation and extensive testing, they have also developed light versions of Hungarian cuisine, reducing cholesterol and calorie content. Generally speaking, dishes served in the new Gundel are lighter and healthier than they had ever been in the restaurant’s one-hundred-year history.
To evoke the atmosphere of a good, traditional restaurant of the past, George Lang created a restaurant and a kitchen in which exclusively women are at work. The basic principle of the restaurant is the idea that: the good tasted and delightful dishes which accompany our lives, are created mostly by women. By our mothers, our grandmothers, our god-mothers. It is a logical idea that women should prepare and serve our food in a good, traditional restaurant as well. The furnishings of the restaurant evoke a middle-class dining room of the early twentieth century. The tables are covered by heavy damask table-cloths, there are old engravings on the walls. During summertime it is a delight to spend some time at one of the two shady garden-terraces at the perimeter of the Zoo.

The wellnet concept is the outcome of several years of research work, personal commitment. Cafeterias serving healthy meals, break rooms providing employees with a place to relax, group trainings, space planning following the principles of feng shui are all important elements of the wellnet programme. With sandwiches and salads the Wellnet Cafés provide a fresh and healthy alternative to fast food burgers, pre-packed sandwiches and bakery products of inferior nutritional composition purchased hastily on the go. The owners believe that the quality of eating is also affected by the attention the food has been prepared with and by the place where you have it at. That's why the finest, farm-fresh ingredients, some certified organic, by local producers are used, that’s why that’s why you’ll hear soothing, relaxing music upon entering these shops and this belief is also a vital element in all interiors.
