The Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (in Hungarian “Vajdasági Magyar Szövetség” or abbreviated as “VMSZ”) was founded in 1994 as an association of citizens independent from political parties and governments. However, within a year it transformed into a political party. The Alliance is the strongest Hungarian minority party in the Republic of Serbia. Regarding its organization, the members form local organizations that are associated into regional organizations. The highest decision-making body of the Alliance is the General Assembly that has at least one meeting a year and elections every four years. The Assembly elects the Council consisting of 45 members by ballots. The Council is the highest body of the Alliance between two Assemblies. The executive body of the Alliance is the Presidency, and the Council by the majority of votes elects all of the 17 members of it. The Presidency is lead by the President, the executive vice-president and the four vice-presidents. The Central Office of the Alliance is in Szabadka – Subotica that is led by the Head of the Office elected by the Presidency.
