Magyar Televízió is Hungary’s national public-service television. It was established pursuant to the Hungarian Parliament Act I of 1996 on radio and television broadcasting as the successor of the Hungarian Television, a state enterprise founded in 1957. he station currently broadcasts on two channels. Its first channel, m1, fulfilling the role of the main national channel, is a terrestrial program. The second channel, m2, is transmitted over EUTELSAT’s HotBird3 satellite. This program is available by satellite dish or local cable networks and also plays an important role in providing information to Hungarian minorities abroad as well as in the dissemination of knowledge and culture.
