Traditional wine cellar in Tokaj with three major and one minor wings carved in loess. The cellar was constructed in the middle of 1770s, as the largest cellar of a then established Russian winetrading company. The main function of the company was to provide the court of Tsarina Elizabeth with Tokaji – hence the name of the winery. (Erzsébet means Elisabeth in Hungarian.) During a cellar tour guests can inspect all wings of the cellar and learn about the architecture of cellars characteristic to Tokaj. Guests will also learn about the unique flora of the cellars and its role in winemaking.
